Common Signs of Hormone Imbalance

Hormones are responsible for many of our bodily functions. Many of us do not realize the important role they play in our daily lives. It is common for people, especially as we age, to experience hormone imbalances. These imbalances have negative effects on our health and well-being. The good news is that there are a number of solutions for these issues. Imbalances can be treated and improved. Here are some of the common symptoms and signs of a hormone imbalance.

Irritability and Mood Swings

Everyone is irritable from time to time. However, in those experiencing a hormone imbalance, the negative feelings are often irrational. For no good reason, you find yourself angry. Mood swings can be severe, you are laughing one moment and crying the next.

Loss of Libido

This is probably one of the most frustrating symptoms. Sex is a normal and healthy part of life. When you suddenly no longer have interest in sexual activities, something is likely wrong. If you have always had a low libido, this symptom is more subtle. But for those who once had a very strong desire for sex, it is highly obvious when it suddenly stops.

Anxiety and Depression

A huge number of people suffer from anxiety and depression. While there are many causes for these ailments, hormone imbalance is one of the primary reasons individuals suffer. Physicians often jump straight to antidepressant medications, rather than checking hormone levels first. If you are experiencing some of the other symptoms along with your anxiety and depression, encourage your doctor to look into hormones as the cause.

Weight Gain

Sudden weight gain, especially around the midsection, is a clear sign of a hormone imbalance. Of course, you may experience weight gain in other areas as well. The key here is to look for a sudden onset of weight gain. If you have typically been a thin person, then seemingly out of nowhere begin gaining weight, it should be a concern.

We all struggle with being tired. Fatigue caused by a hormone imbalance is generally prolonged and severe. This is the type of fatigue that lands you in bed for hours in the middle of the day. You simply do not have the energy to get up and move. It may be accompanied by headaches and muscle aches.

If you believe you are suffering from a hormone imbalance, do not hesitate to seek the assistance of your physician. There are simple tests to determine hormone levels. There are effective treatments available, so there is no reason for you to suffer through these symptoms.
